A forklift, also known as a lift truck or forklift truck, is a versatile industrial vehicle designed for material handling tasks. It typically features two forks at the front that can be raised and lowered to lift and transport heavy loads. Forklifts are commonly used in warehouses, factories, and construction sites to move pallets of goods, machinery, and other materials efficiently and safely, making them an essential tool for modern logistics and material handling operations.
The objective of this program is to equip learners with the necessary skills to operate forklift trucks safely and efficiently in diverse work settings, facilitating the secure movement and stacking of cargo while ensuring basic equipment maintenance adheres to manufacturer and legal standards. Upon successful course completion, learners will possess substantial evidence of competence aligned with Unit Standard US 242974, encompassing the operation of Counter-Balanced Lift Trucks in Codes F1 through F4.
Participants will gain a thorough understanding of various forklift types, their basic components and controls, safety procedures including pre-operational checks and load handling practices, as well as forklift operation techniques, maintenance procedures, emergency response protocols, and regulatory compliance, ensuring they are well-equipped for safe and efficient forklift operation in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Applying of recognized methods for inspecting and documenting the lift truck's operational fitness, identify and classify freight, handle and store it according to industry standards, while adhering to organizational procedures and environmental requirements. Operate equipment in compliance with organizational, legislative, and manufacturer's guidelines, and access emergency support systems when incidents or accidents occur.Additionally, maintain clear and efficient communication with colleagues and supervisors throughout the entire freight handling and equipment operation process.
After the training, learners will demonstrate practical proficiency in various areas including mechanical appreciation, refueling, pre-operating inspection, start-up checks, shutdown inspections, logbook maintenance, operator controls, safety protocols, maneuvering, loading and off-loading, stacking, and cargo handling.Furthermore, learners will be capable of applying these skills and knowledge in real-world scenarios, ensuring safe and efficient forklift operations. The training program aims to empower individuals with a comprehensive skill set to excel in the operation and maintenance of forklifts.
The training program offers flexibility with a 5-day course for novice drivers and a 1-day refresher course, combining theoretical knowledge, in-class activities, a final examination, and a practical evaluation conducted by a dedicated facilitator to ensure comprehensive skill development and assessment.
All learners are expected to attain scores of 80% or higher in Theoretical Assessments and achieve a perfect 100% in Practical Assessments.
